Tributes paid after pilot and German exchange student killed in helicopter crash


Tributes have been paid to a pilot and a teenage German exchange pupil who died when a helicopter crashed into a North Yorkshire discipline.

Police confirmed Ian Macdonald, 66, died in the crash near his household in the village of Burton in Lonsdale shortly in advance of midday on Monday.

The other man or woman who died was 16-calendar year-aged student Admarsu Birhan, who locals reported had been residing with a nearby family members for the final a few months.

Craven district councillor Stuart Handley, who life in Burton in Lonsdale, reported Mr Macdonald was well-preferred in the village.

Mr Handley stated Burton in Lonsdale was a friendly village and Mr Macdonald was usually viewed in its shop and pub.

“He would contact me up if I observed him out and about and I’d go and have a term with him,” he claimed.

“Or in the store if he was getting a espresso or a pint down the neighborhood.

“He fitted in properly.”

On Tuesday, North Yorkshire Law enforcement reported: “The investigation into the total instances surrounding the helicopter crash in the vicinity of Burton in Lonsdale carries on.

“We can now give the names of individuals who we think to be the two people today who sadly died in the crash.

“We consider they ended up neighborhood male 66-calendar year-old Ian Macdonald and 16-year-old Admarsu Birhan, a German national.

“Formal identification is yet to get put.”

On Tuesday the Air Mishaps Investigation Branch said it had despatched a group to the crash web page.
